Finders/Seekers Booklet JOB NOTICE

SEEKING:   Part-Time Pastoral Counselor

Chelsea Community Church, a non-denominational Christian, lay-led, small congregation with a strong commitment to inclusivity, is seeking a clergy person or seminarian to serve as our pastoral counselor.  Please note that worship is primarily a function of the lay leadership.  The pastoral counselor’s focus is on pastoral care and community building.

The work involves approximately five to twelve hours per week of:

  • Attending our Sunday services and the hospitality time that follows (beginning at 12 noon, at St. Peter’s Church, 346 W. 20thStreet in Manhattan)
  • Being available for pastoral counseling
  • Visiting the sick or shut-ins as needed
  • Preaching once every six to eight weeks
  • Coming to our monthly Board of Trustees meetings (on request)
  • Attending a book discussion group before the Sunday Service (optional)

Further duties might be developed in discussion with a candidate, according to the gifts and interests of the applicant.

Our congregation now averages about 20 regular attendees, with a mailing list of over 100 and with special services drawing 75 to 450. Our website address is www.chelseachurch.org.

The stipend is $140 per week for the 46-47 weeks that we have services plus an extra $140 for the month of August when there are no services plus $140 for each occasion of preaching.

Our current Pastoral Counselor is leaving after three and a half years of service because her work in other areas has expanded substantially. Therefore, we would like to begin discussions and interviewing as soon as possible.

To learn more about the congregation or to apply, please contact and/or send a resume to Hilda Regier, chair of the Board of Trustees, at hregier@rcn.com  or leave a message at 212-886-5463.

Rev. Beth Perry resigns as CCC pastoral counselor

Posted on by admin in Articles Leave a comment

Rev. Elizabeth A. Perry, our pastoral counselor, has submitted her resignation because her workload at BeADisciple.com, another of her activities, has increased greatly. BeADisciple.com offers online courses and workshops to church leaders and laity. Rev. Beth has been our pastoral counselor since September 2015. She has generously counseled many in our congregation and visited those who have been hospitalized. She was particularly attentive to Hugo Saurny in his last months and helped plan his funeral. She has also led several coffee hour discussions and energized some in the congregation to participate in a protest against an undocumented immigrant’s deportation.

In addition to her work at Chelsea Community Church and BeADisciple.com, Rev. Beth teaches two religion courses at the College of New Rochelle and isa church consultant on reducing the risk of child abuse in the church. She is also on the faculty of the University of Phoenix’s Jersey City campus where she was honored as part of the “faculty of the year” last September. A wife, mother and grandmother as well, she is a very busy person. Our best wishes go with her as she leaves us to serve the wider world.

Information regarding the search for a new pastoral counselor will be posted here as soon as it is available.

Rick Carrier (1925-2016)

Longtime CCC member and Chelsea neighbor Rick Carrier died quietly on December 12. He was 91. Rick was a World War II veteran, who landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day and later was among those who discovered and liberated Buchenwald. He was a recipient of the prestigious French Legion of Honor Award. In 1959 he wrote and produced a feature motion picture entitled Strangers in the City, which has been shown on Turner Classic Movies several times. He wrote four successful how-to books and founded a non-profit organization to raise awareness for the then endangered bald eagle. With help from Connecticut Governor Ella Grasso, Rick persuaded President Reagan to declare June 20th Bald Eagle Day, still recognized by over 47 states.

The lay-led service on Sunday, January 1, at Chelsea Community Church, will include a dedication to the memory of Rick Carrier, with special music by Pam Palmieri, Charles Ramsey, and Leslie Barth.
