Our Sunday Morning Reading and Discussion Group
A weekly reading and discussion group meets most Sundays 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Don Whelan Room/Rectory Chapel. All are welcome. Over the years we have read multiple books, engaged in a couple of writing projects, and ALWAYS have far-reaching, inspirational and inquisitive discussions that take the weekly reading as a starting point. Join us at any time; visitors and new participants are ALWAYS WELCOME!
The Reading Group’s current project and readings for the week are posted on the home page in the Reading Group column. Join us!
Last year the group read the Bible in its entirety over the course of a year –“The Bible Challenge!” Request the syllabus — write to us at the e-mail below. We adapted the reading schedule of the “The Bible Challenge“ of a popular program developed by St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church of Austin, TX. This was a wonderfully stimulating and challenging exercise, and we learned things we never learned in Sunday School!
In the past we have read inspirational authors such as Thomas Merton, Kathleen Norris and Diana Butler-Bass. We have also read many scholarly historical books such as Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time by Marcus J. Borg, The Jews in the Time of Jesus by Stephen M. Wylen, The Jesus Driven Life by Michael Hardin, What Jesus Meant and What Paul Meant by Gary Wills, and we have indulged in some epistolary and psalm writing based on Biblical models.
